Nigerians from all ethnic and religious background in Madrid, Spain defied their previous political affiliation and came together on their own to host me and my wife in the Spanish capital of Madrid.
Clad in their beautifully worn customized white branded t-shirts with my picture and slogan “Vote Comrade Sunny Ofehe for Governor Delta State.” I addressed them and made it clear that I will have the interest of our Diaspora at heart as the next Governor.
I promised to set up a Diaspora Ministry with a Commissioner for Diaspora Affairs appointed among Deltans in the Diaspora when I become the next Governor. I will make it possible for Diaspora Deltans to have access to affordable land acquisition and encourage those with an intention to invest back home.
The significance of our Diaspora cannot be over-emphasised. In the first quarter of this year alone, Diaspora remittance to Nigeria was around $5.6 billion dollar. A significant addition to our Nation’s GDP and Delta must benefit from this economic advantage.
