While our opponents are busy courting the rich and famous for votes, we have decided to build a relationship with the poorly neglected and deprived Delta citizens. My style of democracy is to meet, know and build relationship with the voters.
This way you can understand their needs and also make yourself accessible as their Servant-Leader.
The flood ravaging Nigeria has had a monumental human tool on the people of Delta State, many have lost their lives and thousands forced out of their homes. The Government has created several shameful and makeshift IDP camps around the State.
These IDP camps fall short of International standard and lack all International guidelines and principles for the setting up of IDP camps.
Myself and my Deputy Governorship Candidate visited one of the camps in Ozoro, Isoko North Local Government Area in the State to show solidarity.
The people were living in public primary school with improper hygiene, no toilet and no electricity. The doors and windows are missing in the classrooms where they sleep. They are exposed to reptiles and mosquitoes!
Women with little children and a woman who just delivered two days before my visit are without access to healthcare and medicines. I gave them food items and cash for the eleven mothers with children under six months old.
I promised to look into their situation and when I become the Governor of Delta State, they will NEVER again go through such harrowing situation.
They came out in their numbers chanting praises and said they want to see me become their next Governor. In me they said they have hope and trust. I prayed with them and asked God to stand for them since their own Government failed them.
The child born in less than 48 hours before our arrival was the one I carried in my hand. I promised the parents that myself and my wife will be responsible for the child’s upkeep until they are resettled to their homes.
Meanwhile, those in Government including the State Government are using their situation to score political points. Politicians are visiting the IDP camps with what they call relief materials without doing enough to take this people to a more humane environment.
The question still remain; how did we get here, is this the best condition to leave these poor people?
Please vote wisely in 2023 so we can free our mothers, elders and vulnerable children from this terrible situation.
